At least 31 killed in Taliban attack on Kandahar airport |
![]() In Afghanistan, at least 22 military officers and nine Taliban fighters have been killed after an attack on the heavily fortified Kandahar airport compound. Afghan air force commander in the southern region Raziq Shirzai, told BBC that there were some civilians among the dead and wounded. At least 20 people have been injured. Taliban forces attacked buildings housing government employees and military bases at the airport last night, which is used by Afghan, US and NATO military forces. Kandahar airport director Ahmadullah Faizi told AFP some passengers waiting to board a commercial flight to India had been trapped inside the airport's civilian terminal at some distance from the fighting during the attack. |
