Powerful 7.7 quake strikes Pacific, tsunami warnings lifted

An earthquake of 7.7 magnitude with an epicenter at a depth of 212 kilometers (132 miles) struck the Mariana Islands in the Pacific Ocean on Friday at 21:18 GMT, according to the US Geological Survey. The quake did not pose a threat of causing a destructive tsunami, according to several warning services. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC) tweeted that the tremor was “too deep to pose a threat,” while Chile’s national emergency services lifted a warning of a possible tsunami just minutes after issuing it. There have been no immediate reports of structural damage near the epicenter, and the Northern Mariana Islands are scarcely populated. The quake did cause some commotion on social media, however, as tremors over 7 on the Richter scale are considered extremely destructive.

Shot at a party in Mukilteo

The shooter has been arrested and is being held in custody, the weapon that is believed to have been used has also been found, according to a Twitter post.
The gunman is said to have been armed with a rifle.
A witness says that the event was most likely a high school or college party, while parents have begun gathering at the scene and are awaiting further news from the police.
